We sat down with Jackie to learn more about her career, what keeps her motivated, and the relationships that have shaped her journey.
How long have you worked at NAPCO?
This November will be 28 years.
When I started, I was 21 years old. Steve Coven hired me because I had experience with ACPAC DOS, which was the accounting software I had worked with in a previous job. I came to NAPCO as a Customer Service Representative, handling order entry and processing, and over the years my role continued to grow.
Today, I'm the Customer Success Manager. I oversee key customer accounts, support the customer service team, and help wherever I'm needed. One of the things I love about NAPCO is that I've had the opportunity to learn every part of the business.
What has kept you at NAPCO for nearly three decades?
The relationships.
I've grown personally and professionally here. When I started, I was 21 years old. Now I'm married, have two children, and have built a career that I truly love.
What puts my feet on the ground every day are the partnerships I've developed with our customers. It has become much deeper than just an order or a customer name. I've shared a lot of life with them, and they've shared a lot with me.
The trust we've built is what keeps those relationships strong. When something goes wrong, customers call us. They know we're going to help make it right.
What do you enjoy most about working with customers?
Customer visits.
They feed my veins. I love it.
There's definitely a business side to those visits, but it's really about relationship building and understanding how our customers run their businesses. We provide the products, but they're the ones meeting homeowners, managing crews, and growing successful refinishing companies.
I've been able to visit customer locations, spend time on job sites, and see firsthand how they operate. Every visit teaches me something, and many times I'm able to take what I've learned and share it with other customers.
One of my favorite recent experiences happened when I met one of NAPCO's earliest customers. We were talking and discovered that he lives in the same small Tennessee town where my husband and I recently built a home. We ended up spending a couple of hours together just talking. Those kinds of connections are what make this job so rewarding.
You're involved in many of NAPCO's customer programs. What has that experience been like?
It's been incredibly rewarding.
I've been involved with Top Gun Mastermind from the beginning, and I spent many years helping coordinate our training programs. I still enjoy meeting students when they arrive and helping them get started.
One thing I've learned is that customers love seeing who we are. They appreciate product updates and business tips, but they really connect with the people behind NAPCO.
I've done videos, social media content, customer events, and plenty of spontaneous live videos over the years. Customers respond to authenticity. They want to know the people they're doing business with.
What makes NAPCO different?
I genuinely believe we have the best products in the industry, but what really separates us is our customer service.
I know we kick ass at customer service.
We always put our customers first. We don't just want NAPCO to grow. We want our customers to grow. Whether they're calling about a product issue, looking for business advice, attending a training class, or trying to solve a challenge, they know we're there for them.
That's incredibly rewarding for me because I get to see their growth firsthand.
Have there been mentors who influenced your career?
Absolutely.
Dani Nichols has been a huge part of my life and career. She's been here for 30 years, and I've learned so much from her work ethic and leadership.
I've also worked closely with John Maxwell through Top Gun Mastermind and currently work with Mark Repkin, who has helped me continue developing as a leader and coach.
One of the things I enjoy now is helping others grow the same way people helped me.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Family is everything to me.
My husband and I have been together for nearly 30 years, and we have two sons. One is a PE teacher and the other is studying marketing at the University of Iowa.
I also love dancing. Music has always been a big part of my life, and line dancing is one of my favorite things to do. It helps me recharge and reset.
My husband and I also built a home in Tennessee, which has become our getaway. Being out there is completely different from life in Chicago. It's quiet. You can listen to the birds and slow down for a little while.
I also love concerts and classic cars. I have a 1950 Chevy farm truck that I take to car shows whenever I get the chance.
What is something people may not know about you?
People get attached to things or houses. I'm attached to people.
Relationships have always been important to me. If I have my people, I'm good.
That's true in my personal life, and it's true in my professional life. It's one of the reasons I've stayed at NAPCO for so long. The relationships I've built here with customers, coworkers, and industry partners mean everything to me.
